I don't like people who complain about today's generation, about how we're all apparently apathetic and negative, and apparently nobody has dreams or aspirations any more. For two reasons-
The first one is that, if you truly hate that so much, why don't you go out there and be the exception to the rule. nothing's stopping you from proving everyone wrong and going against the grain, but instead you choose to sit around whining about it. Whining about how everyone's so negative just makes you sound negative, that's the irony of it.
(I'm aware that yes, I'm complaining about people complaining)
The second reason is that, not everybody's like that, not nearly. Stop generalising. I know lots of positive, polite people who intend to get a good education and have a fulfilling career, I know intelligent people. You have to remember that while the people you encounter may be all that YOU see, there are still other people out there that you haven't met. You can only see one part of a society, can only see a cross-section of today's generation. So all your generalisations are null and void.

note: this isn't written about/to one specific person, it's just easier for me to write in second person
